Attacking with Bayonets: Pummel and Tip Slash vs Staff

mercredi 18 mars 2015

The typical skills for bayonet is Spear and Staff - Spear to Thrust, Staff to Swing (blade or butt) and Parry. Except some forum members in the past have said parrying with the rifle wouldn't get the staff +2 (which is fine).

The Military lens for styles also doesn't list staff.

So is it really best modeled with just Spear, and the Slash and Butt Stroke left to "Tip Slash" and Pummel from Martial Arts?

Tip slash takes the thrust damage -2, counting as Swing, and turning it into cutting damage. In GURPS SEALS in Vietnam (and maybe High Tech), bayonets are generically a Thr+3 Imp weapon, while swinging the edge at someone isn't given any explanation. I was just using the stats for the dismounted bayonet attached to the rifle, used with the staff skill. Wasn't sure about adding any damage bonus due to leverage.

It's a roll at full skill, though any Targeted Attacks treat it as a third option from Swing and Thrust.

Best way to do it?

Similarly, Pummel, to represent the butt stroke. I recall this maneuver being a thing for swords, but just realized it also allows longer weapons (meaning Staff I've been giving my spearmen who can also wack with the back end was wrong). It uses Brawling, DX, or Karate to hit. No Technique apparently since it's a maneuver (didn't see one on the cheat sheet). Not sure why it doesn't also have a Weapon Skill based option like Tip Slash, even though? Surely if Spear lets me Tip Slash, then Spear should also let me pummel?

Same if you used the butt end to smash someone I'd imagine.

I'm sure a wood rifle stock would give more than just +1 to damage, though; those things have heft, and are quite hard (often metal capped).

Thoughts?
