I wondered how to emulate Support Bonuses from the Fire Emblem series.
For those not in the know, in the Fire Emblem series, characters who have affinities can form friendships and/or loving relations with their allies in the field, through being next to one another, and talking after/during (depends on which game you're playing) the battle. After that, when they fight together, they gain support bonuses, which means they are able to work so well as a team and surpass themselves to protect their friend/lover they enjoy mechanical bonuses during the fights, but only so long as they stay together.
So the relationship building could and probably should be enjoyed in RP, but I kinda like the idea of best friends being better at fighting together. Plus, it encourages teamwork, and I always love seeing teamwork. How to emulate that?
