Platinum Catalysts and Superconductors

Platinum Catalysts and Superconductors should be added to Car Wars Classic. They are too useful not to have in the basic rulebook of the game.

Without those two power plant modifications, several vehicles will be unable to add weight to their maximum loads. This limitation was common in the early years of Car Wars. Several examples exist in Pocket Box Car Wars and The AADA Vehicle Guide Volume 1.

A luxury with an extra-heavy chassis has a maximum load of 6,600 lbs. A large power plant has a "maximum pull" of 6,000 lbs. If a large power plant is placed in this luxury, the car can only weigh a maximum 6,000 lbs., and 50 lbs. of remaining maximum load based on the frame and chassis strength is unable to be used.

A super power plant, with a maximum pull of 7,800 lbs., can be installed in the luxury to permit the car to weigh up to the maximum load of 6,600 lbs. The car will need extra cost, extra weight and one extra space for this option.

A large power plant with Superconductors has 2,200 power factors, resulting in a maximum pull of 6,600 lbs. Superconductors would be very useful for a luxury equipped with an extra-heavy chassis.

Trikes with chassis modifications often have the same limitation as described above.

Road Sections

Road sections need to be included with Car Wars Classic. Zip-Top Plastic Bag Car Wars and Pocket Box Car Wars had road sections. Highway combat, the type of scenario that was responsible for the high level of interest in Car Wars when the game was first published in 1981, is much easier with road sections than a racetrack map. One of the reasons Milton Bradley's Thunder Road, published in 1986, was exciting is its never-ending road. The basic set of Car Wars needs to have a never-ending road again.

Laser Batteries

Laser batteries are very useful for highway combat, therefore they should be included in Car Wars Classic.

Magazine Switches

Should the Magazine Switch be included in Car Wars Classic? The only vehicular weapon that has different ammunition types is the Vehicular Grenade Launcher.

Hand Weapons

The Hand Weapon List may be too large. Perhaps some of the more exotic items should be removed from Car Wars Classic. I recommend removing the Gauss Rifle and the Gauss Pistol, especially because the Gauss Gun is not included in the Vehicular Weapons List.

I would also consider removing the Anti-Vehicular Rifle, Heavy Anti-Vehicular Rifle and Bazooka.
