I really enjoy the flexibility of the GURPS magic system. Ignite Fire doesn't have the rule "you do 1d fire damage to adjacent foe," it describes a system for doing all sorts of ignitions which can be used in any way at all!
It's fantastic and open ended... and that means that occasionally players and creative GMs can do more with magic than appears possible at first glance.
Take, for instance, a modern PC who's father had Terminally Ill, justified as severe lung cancer. He'd already rolled against HT to decide if it had metastized, and we determined that though inoperable, it was not distributed through the bloodstream.
Following some in-universe research, he discovered the spell eviscerate, which removes a target organ from a victim. This spell features a lovingly-detailed set of instructions, including the rules for being a disembodied brain. (Er, that is, a person who has suffered a anticerebralextomy.) The mage simply cast eviscerate on "the tumor."
This caused some serious "splattery" effects because this was a DARK version of the spell (it doesn't teleport, but merely "launches" the organ in question...), but the patient survived the damage and the HT roll thereafter. He has a fairly substantial HT score...
The mage then cured the wounds and promptly fainted when he noticed how much he was covered in his father's blood. Did I mention he had Squeamish?
Anyway, everyone survived, and basically the father lost Terminally Ill because, well, he didn't have cancer anymore.
Well, he did have cancer, but it was in a jar on the shelf now,
Anyway, what are some clever ways your PCs have used spells?

How have you "misused" spells?
