Any C or C++ programmers around?

vendredi 10 avril 2015

Hi guys. I'm a long time lurker on these forums, as well as a fanatic for GURPS, and tabletop RPGs in general. I'm posting in the hope of finding a C or C++ coder to join me in the development of a unique idea I have for a text-based online role playing game.

If you're proficient in C or C++ programming and you play RPGs in any capacity, then you're likely familiar with what a MUD (Multi User Dungeon) is. That's essentially the format this game will follow, but in terms of the scope of the focus and content, the similarities more or less end there.

In brief, my intention is to create a game which simulates a persistent, living and breathing battlefield (essentially a large city under siege, and the surrounding area). Player Characters will be soldiers with varying specialties, hunting enemies and completing missions to increase their rank and skills and gain access to additional equipment and tactical assets.

Unlike most text-based games of this sort, PC death will be permanent, necessitating caution in the course of their adventures. The game mechanics and gameplay environment will encourage (and reward) cooperative play an teamwork. In the bigger picture, the game will strive to explore and emulate the various dangers and hardships that soldiers face on the modern battlefield.

Additionally, the game will emulate the various complexity of warfare in terms of chain of command and logistics (in the form of equipment acquisition, the need to resupply forward based, and so forth).

I have a comprehensive design document in the works, but if you're intrigued by the general concept and are keen to take on a creative and collaborative project, then please send me a PM and let's talk more about it.

Many thanks for reading, and happy gaming!
