Hi, my name is Railstar and I have Fanaticism [-15]
This causes me great personal difficulties in my everyday life, but I am often blinded to them in my devotion to the cause. Often it just seems the obvious approach to me, the way to do things, yet I am told I have a problem. To me it is just sincerity, doing what you believe in. They say my problem is quite severe, but to me unwavering dedication does not seem any more restrictive than most of their quirks.
Alright... silliness aside, Fanaticism [-15] is meant to be a fairly severe disadvantage. Also, I like to play characters with strong principles. And while I do make them react strongly, for instance a character with Fanaticism [-15] & Charitable [-15] is prone to making a Sacrificial Dodge to rescue a hostage, and the same guy seldom makes self-control rolls because when I take a character with Charitable [-15] I typically want to play the guy who helps others, so it doesn't feel restrictive to me.
And since acting like someone committed to a cause doesn't feel restrictive to me, I am not conscious of which actions my character takes are playing out the disadvantage.
My favourite character is a Heroic Knight archetype, and has Fanaticism, but I wonder how it is different to just playing a Heroic Knight. So a general question, what are your experiences of Fanaticism in play? When you see Fanaticism on a character sheet, what do you expect and how do you think it should affect the character?
Another question is distinguishing between Fanaticism [-15] and other disadvantages that relate to unwavering dedication - such as Sense of Duty & Code of Honour. What would you say the difference between those would be? What about a character with Code of Honour, Fanaticism & Sense of Duty?
Thanks in advance.
