I am running a campaign set in the Firefly Verse, but I hope to fracture the setting politically. So far, I have a political split between the main Parliament and a faction of Ariel delegates who seek to reform the Alliance. Terrorists destroyed the government complex with a small nuke, killing most members. The survivors are reconvening on Sihnon, with a new corporate supported PM. Now there is an open rift between Ariel and the main body at Londinium and Sihnon.
Rather than simply having another big war (yawn), I'd like to play out an economic collapse a la Argentina, Greece, or Third Imperium as in Hard Times. The end result should be a politically fragmented setting with more room for naughty men to slip about.
How would this play out? What would the likely steps in a major financial collapse look like?
