I was thinking about what if demons and elementals were spirits who can materialize or be materialized by elementalists and demonologists. It sure would be more useful for elementalists because if they are in a dungeon having a l
fire elemental follow the party around might be dangeous and sort of silly. But what if an elementList could trap the spiritual form of the fire elemental into a ruby and then when he desires he materializes it? Or maybe the spirit form of the elemental is bound into a sword making a flaming sword. A fire elemental might be the spirit of fire that is materialized. Maybe the elementalist could even command the fire elemental to use his own energy to materialize.
The same is true for water elementals, earth elementals and air elementals. They could all be spirits that the elementalist has bound and then can materialize when he desires.
As far as demons being spirits, I think this is really creepy and cool. The demon could be bound and then commanded to attack in spirit form to possess a victim. Or the demonologist could materialize the demon when he desires. The demon must be bound however or the demonic spirit will escape and create chaos.
Maybe the pentagram is powerful against spiritual beings instead of magical ones. Thus elementals and demons can not cross the boundry because they are spirits. The elementalist would materialize these spirits inside the pentagram so that they can be controlled before releasing them.
Maybe demonic spirits are attracted to evil places and they desire greatly to be materialized and they could offer a demonologist service in exchange for materializiation.
