FreedomForce

The world is exactly like we know it today except "superpowers" start coming out of the woodwork... And seemingly they've been around for over a century... With perhaps 1:10,000,000 having some kind of super power...

Players play members of a recently formed clandestine multi-national superhero team, FreedomForce, who is dedicated to researching and catalogging the phenomenon, policing the world from the bad elements, and nudging the good ones in directions to make the world a better place.

I will be using a very rules-light storytelling non-system. "Character sheets" will include a "seven sentence npc" structure followed by important elements that we care to note as we play. Character creation will be in writing a few paragraphs of character background, abilities and character arc (i.e. what is the character when the game begins and where do you want the character to go during the course of this first adventure).

Characters are encouraged to be from diverse cultural, national and power-origins.

Setting Origins: as some of the game is discovery of what makes supers tick I'm going to be somewhat vague here... some people are born with abilities, some people suddenly discover their abilities during a stressfull or dangerous time (like a car accident, terrible illness or puberty), some people learn magic. I'm not saying that the following supers will not be encountered, but player characters should not be aliens, fantasy creatures or robots. (if you want them to discover they are aliens, fantasy creatures or robots later, that might work, just as long as they are psychologically human, raised by humans on earth and have no ties to other worldly beings we haven't really defined yet).

Power Levels: FreedomForce is realizing that supers come in all kinds of power levels. Many of the big baddies are of the world shaking variety... and should be a big enough challenge that FreedomForce needs to work together and think ahead... With that said, characters can be close to world shaking themselves side by side other characters who have a few minor capabilities and their own niche..

Plot Armor: I agree to protect low power characters who get caught in a fight with a world shaking types by making them captured or knocked unconscious rather than dead... but only if THEY define it.. In other words, if I describe your low power level character comes toe to toe with DeathMan, you can describe that you are attacking him, but be prepared to die... OR you can describe how you are casually talking to DeathMan... and might die... BUT if you describe your character's fear and concern, DeathMan will dialog with said character... AND if you describe your character being knocked out by DeathMan, your character is knocked out by Deathman... Deathman will leave your character alone...

Other Power Specifics: many of the supers the FreedomForce has encountered have an innate sense of matter and/or energy around them.. Those with the ability to disintegrate are able to sense the matter around them, "lock on" to that matter, and disintegrate it.
