I think Magesmiley is right - Let's move this debate out of the Collected Errata sticky. I agree it is ambiguous and needs to be clarified.
I am not really passionate on whichever way the rulings fall - as long as they are consistent, fair and don't require mental acrobatics to make the rules as written fit the situation. I admit, I lean to the notion that there should be no upper limit to hazards caused by weapon fire. The original rules were written when no weapon caused more than 3d6 and the most you could get out of a facing consistently was 6d6. In my opinion, what happened is that as the arms race in Car Wars increased, the upper cap on hazards did not. Even if I hit you with a howitzer, the most I can give you is a D3, equal to a heavy drift.
