So its common in stories to have people be told their destiny/future by randomly met oracles and gods, or even to seek them out and be burdened/driven by the knowledge of what will one day occur.
GURPS has both positive and negative Destiny to simulate this, but leaves it either blank or to be defined at the time of the trait being picked up. I'm just working with a player of mine and mentioned the idea of perhaps being destined for something and they opted for it... so long as it were random.
The thought being, that although its perfectly fine and good to make a character who very much is fated to save the kingdom, or doomed to die whilst trying... its also perfectly reasonable to be saddled with the foreknowledge of such a thing when its technically inappropriate or at least in some way unwanted. As such, a randomly generated destiny would suit this fine!
Suddenly find out you're destined to save a princess and you'll be overly aware of royal messengers from that point onwards. Have some prophetic hag relish in informing you that your son will lob your head off and find yourself quickly adopting a vow of chastity... etc. Or not, perhaps you seek to avert it, or flaunt it, or whatever - its a great chance for RPing!
However, I can't seem to find anything that will spit out a random destiny, so I'm calling on your help to make a list of them. Big or small, good or bad, anything goes so long as its interesting - listing the point cost for its severity would help too, for those wanting to buy the trait.
I'll start!
1) Will cause the destruction of a great keep. (5 or -5, if random it might even be 0 points)
2) Will lose a hand to a reptile. (-10)
3) Will bring forth great darkness. (-15)
4) Will fail in saving the king, and as a result be slain by an angry mob. (-15 with a +10 positive because you can't die until that point, resulting in a -5 total)
5) Will permanently end the tyranny of dragons. (15)
