I picked up a copy of City Stats on an impulse a little while back, but I never actually got use out of it. Recently while going through my GURPS collection I decided to give it a quick re-read, and was inspired to actually create something off of it for fun. Since I'm not currently running anything, I decided to do my "home" town:
Lexington Park, Maryland (c.2015)
Population: 12,000 (Search +1)
Physical and Magical Environment
Terrain: Woodland
Appearance: Unattractive (-1) Hygiene: 0
No Mana (No Enchantment)
Culture and Economy
Language: English Literacy: Native
TL: 8
Wealth: Average Status: -2 to 2
Political Environment
Government: Representative Democracy, Subjugated
CR: 3 (Corruption -1)
Military Resources: $156,000 Defense Bonus: +4
Notes
Lexington Park hosts a large number of defense contractors. Explorers would certainly receive a +2 bonus to finding an aero-space defense corporation. The town also features a large number of churches, including numerous store-fronts. Should explorers set out to find a place of worship, a +1 bonus to their roll would be warranted. Similarly, if on a search for low-to-mid tier liquor, a +1 bonus is not unreasonable. Hotels and Motels are also readily available, at +1 to find any open room.
The town does not feature a military of its own; the effective Military Resources of the police assume CR1 for mobilization; typically Subjects do not have any military resources at all, but a small dedicated police force does exist for the town.
If you'd like to know more, I drew it out into a blog post:
http://chainlinkandconcrete.blogspot...gton-park.html
I wasn't born there, but I've been here several years now, and am not anticipating leaving any time soon, so why not? A couple IRL folks I know actually liked it, so when I find time they've asked me to do some for the neighboring regions mentioned in that post (Great Mills, Leonardtown, California).
Have any of you done up a place you frequent in reality? Definitely not as impressive as something like San Fran, Detroit, Grayhawk, or Arrakeen (which I have considered doing), but it is very "real".
Cheers!
M.
