TL 10 - Non-biological support of blood loss?

dimanche 17 mai 2015

Given
  • a patient who has lost a lot of blood (~25% normal blood volume?) due to traumatic injury
  • Said patient has an unfamiliar, Unusual Biochemistry that definitely makes them incompatible with the blood supply and blood-replacers you have on hand (patient is an alien, an obscure bioroid type, etc)
    • Patient isn't completely alien, but the first responder has a familiarity penalty and doesn't want to experiment.
    • The problem of stopping bleeding has been dealt with and the injury is stabilized, but requires surgical repair.
  • "Mature" TL 10 (no ^) medicine
    • no stasis or hibernation technology
    • You only have access to paramedic grade equipment (either actually on ship, or via fabricators)

... How can you keep that patient alive for a two-to-three-day transfer to a planet with appropriate medical supplies and doctors with Familiarity with the patients species/whatever?

The only thing I can think of is giving them high concentrations of oxygen to try and assist gas exchange with whatever blood is left. Probably IV fluids to help it circulate (at least simple saline). I'm not even sure what a hospital type setting could do under these restrictions, tbh. Nanites are awesome, but at TL 10 I think they're either tailored OR require hospital equipment.

I'm still digging around in the equipment lists, but I'm not seeing anything really obvious.
