Thinking about different forum threads to do with high skill levels and character age got me thinking.
Key parts the discussion are
So what about a new advantage to cover it? (feel free to shoot this down if this is not new) This could almost be called an unusual background.
Passionate (Subject)
You are deeply interested in all aspects to do with one field of endeavor, you have no difficulty concentrating on this subject for long periods of time, in fact you find it quite satisfying. Others who spend a great deal of time with you may tire of your conversation however. It would be very unusual if you where not competitive about you subject of choice, in fact you may be striving to be the best.
As a result of your constant thought and enthusiastic practice you can ignore the need to spend additional time maintaining you skill level and points spent on it at character start do not count towards the two times age skill point limit. Time use for this skill counts as double (For characters that age(?))
May or may not be limited to a single skill. For example Passionate (archer) would include Archery and Armory (missile weapons). Passionate (Hunter) would include Tracking, Survival, Animal handling and possibly (dependent on GM, Traps or a weapon skill). Does not necessarily make you a good teacher of the subject.
Useful when modeling the young and talented, the dedicated marksman, the ancient doddering but incredibly effective old sensi , and many of the people who compete in any activity at a high level then talk about competition blow by blow for hours afterward. Not the same as a Talent as no bonus to the actual skill is conferred. Maybe some rule/incentive to keep all the skills within a passion at similar levels.
Maybe 2 points per skill covered? Less?
Advantage Idea, Passionate
Key parts the discussion are
- At high skill levels (> attribute +10) a lot of maintenance is required
- Unaging characters have no time pressure to better themselves
- Young characters have not had time to learn many skills
- Unaging characters who use a skill frequently should have a high level in that skill
- How do you fit in one or more characters with very high skill relative to societal norms
- I want my character to be better
So what about a new advantage to cover it? (feel free to shoot this down if this is not new) This could almost be called an unusual background.
