Enchantment only you can use. (MY WEDNESDAY NIGHT GROUP KEEP OUT!)

mardi 24 février 2015

I'm going to be running a game with a Verb-Noun based form of Syntactic Magic. Using the formula in THAUMATOLOGY (p187) the base cost of enchanting a spell into an item is multiplied by 30 if it is to be usable by Mages only and by 50 if anyone can use it.

So what would be an appropriate multiplier if it is a personal item, one that only the maker can use? x20? x15? x10?

I'm thinking initially of only having a few such items analogous to the Focus you find in HARNMASTER or the Talisman (if I've got that right) in ARS MAGICA. Mostly it's a disadvantage that only you can use it but in a few circumstances it's an advantage. What do you thinK?
