[DF] How tough should chitin be?

If I've got giant bombardier beetles and giant bees and giant spiders and all kinds of giant things (say, dog-sized to ogre-sized), approximately how tough is their chitin or exoskeletons going to be?



And the more important question for adventurers, can you make armor out of it?
