Extinguishing Alchemist's Fire

Technically a DF question, but it applies to any fantasy world which uses it, considering its a staple of D&D too. So, what extinguishes Alchemist's Fire? Clearly rolling around to smother the flames works, that's clearly written, magic likely does too because magic. But does light or heavy rain? A bucket of water? Strong winds?

It's written up as sticky oil, but does that mean cunning adventures can toss a bottle of it into a room followed by a flask of water and watch the place explode like a chip-pan fire? It seems unlikely, or entirely abusable if its the case.

Also, the fire doesn't seem to be actually magical in anyway, it doesn't require mana to ignite or burn, so its likely just a chemical reaction rather than distilled magic. Although that is a common assumption/misconception, and it would allow it to be more powerful in some cases by being ignorant of mundane counter-measures (whilst being vulnerable to low/no magic zones).

So, how does it work in your games? What's a reasonable set of conditions to extinguish a pool of this stuff?
